The battery of Longues sur Mer is one of the most beautiful and original kept in tact gun locations of the France Atlantikwall, and is therefore tourist highlight.
The 4 gun positions lying about 150m from the coast line from where they where commanded from the Leitstand of type M262. Around the bunkers are several smaller bunkers and positions , like Tobruks and ammo storages. Because we where at this location in august it wasn't possible to see or visit all the smaller items around the battery in the meadow with crop standing on it.
Around March 1944 the Germans started building the battery and by the end of Mai 1944 most of the work was ready. The Allies started to bomb the place in Mai and on the day of the landings on June 6th 1944. During the landings the battery was also taken under fire by some heavy cruisers and battle ships and shortly after this attack the battery stopped firing.
